Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plate - Anyone???

Happy Day Everyone ~
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

8in x 10in Gel Printing Plate

Today I wanted to see if anyone out there has a Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plate and if you'd like to see some of my experimenting with it.  I know it's a bit on the pricey side (20.00 - 70.00 depending on the size) but it's re-usable and you can create hundreds and hundreds of prints with just a few tools.

If you don't want to purchase a permanent type gel printing plate you can make your own version at home using gelatin.  There are several receipts out there some for the regular type gel plates and there is also a few receipts for "permanent" gel plates.  Now I've not tried making the permanent type but the regular old gelatin type works great.  The only problem with that one is that you have to store it in the refrigerator if you want to keep it.    Also, from what I've heard the plates made using alcohol smell badly.

So, do you think you'd like to see the Gelli Plate in action or no?  JLMK ~ I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  3. I also bought one...gads, I hate to admit this but it was about 4 or 5 months ago and I haven't even opened it yet!!! I would also love to see a few tutorials---maybe starting out with something a little basic because I have no idea where to begin.

  7. I had wanted one ever since I saw one on a blog at least three years ago. After asking everyone I knew for one three years in a row, I finally bought one myself. It took nearly four months for me to open it, partly because my craft room was too cold this winter. When I finally opened it, I was super disappointed. It wasn't nearly as easy to use as gelatin, and I was scared I'd ruin it because it was so costly. Yep, that was my craft budget for TWO years!

So I'd love a second opinion, as well as some insight as to why I don't care for this thing I wanted so badly for so long, then couldn't get it to work right for me.

  9. Roni, I think it would be a great idea (and service to your readers, lol) if you worked up something for the Gelli plate. I've had one for a while and made some beautiful (imho) prints. I also let my niece's children (8 and 10 at the time) play with it. They had great success and fun. I love the versatility of the Gelli plate, but find that I don't get it out very often because, let's be honest, you need a place where you can lay out all of the papers you print so they can dry. And, because it can be rather addicting, I tend to make LOTS of prints while I have it out. One tip that I would offer - if you end up with a print that you really like, scan it into your computer so that you'll always have access to it, even if you use the original. Think of it as a mother board for future work.

For myself, I'd love to see you do a paper comparison like you did for stamping and coloring a couple of weeks ago. I've used deli paper and Georgia Pacific card stock. I'd be interested to read your opinion of how different papers work.

  11. I would love to have a gel printing plate. I keep entering contests to win one but so far no go. I did make a gelatin one which lasted for a few months and had fun with that. Time to make another one. I used Vodka and didn't notice a bad smell. I've found some of the plates on Amazon but don't know whether to get the 6x6 or the round one. The round one is more expensive. :-(
